The army combat vet will lead exercise classes, talk healthy eating at Home, Health & Finance
July 19, 2018 – Washington, DC – Nardia Cunningham a.k.a Nards is an esteemed team member of world renown fitness guru Massy Arias. Now, the army combat veteran and mother of two has partnered with Make Room, the national advocacy nonprofit raising awareness about the 25 million Americans struggling to pay rent, which includes nearly 800,000 military vets. Cunningham will lead exercise classes and conduct a cooking demonstration about healthy eating on a budget at Make Room’s Home, Health & Finance Expo and Symposium at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018.
“I am very pleased to be a part of Make Room’s Home, Health and Finance event because my family and I have been one of those 25 million Americans,” Cunningham said. “Not long ago, I was a new mother recently discharged from the Army and I was struggling to pay rent. I sought assistance and received aid through the Veterans HUD-VASH program. I am grateful for the work Make Room does for families by advocating and providing aid to help ease family financial stress and make rent affordable to everyone.”
Make Room understands how vital it is to pair educational workshops and resources specific to affordable housing with health and nutrition demos since the No. 1 social determinant of health is finances. Therefore, it’s a perfect fit to collaborate with Cunningham, who will inspire healthy living among the 300 to 500 attendees of Make Room’s signature traveling event, which kicks off in DC and aims to help renters stabilize their housing, build or restore their credit, receive free health assessments, access insurance, and connect with community resources to improve overall health and financial wellbeing.
“Make Room is honored to have Nardia Cunningham join us at our Home, Health and Finance Expo in Washington, DC,” said President and CEO, Ali Solis. “Not only does she have a personal connection to housing insecurity, but she is also extremely relatable to impacted families, who have a military background and are raising small children. Not to mention her amazing fitness story, which she shares on Instagram along with some of the most inspiring before and after pictures around!”
Cunningham will lead two 15-minute fitness classes – one morning, one afternoon – and a nutrition class about healthy eating on a budget during Make Room’s Home, Health & Finance Expo and Symposium, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 16.
Other participants include actor J.W. Cortes, who plays Detective Alvarez on Fox’s award-winning drama series Gotham and stars in the upcoming Ron Canada-directed and produced off-Broadway play Spin Off, which opens September 23 at The Riverside Theatre in NYC.
